Toyota has announced a recall of about 8,000 Toyota Tacoma pickup trucks. The trucks affected are 2010 model year with 4-wheel drive. The front drive shaft on these trucks may have cracks that developed during manufacturing. Over time, these cracks may cause the front drive shaft to separate at the joint.
Only two production lots were affected by this condition. Inspection takes approximately 10 minutes and can be performed by dealers. Vehicles found with the faulty drive shaft will have the part replaced at no cost.
Toyota will notify owners of these trucks about the recall by mail around the middle of March, 2010.
